hi, if someone replaces a chassis in a bug or ghia with a spaceframe the registration plate would need to be Q prefix... right ? If so would it be classed as a brand new car ? and therefore be counted into the new co2 tax laws and maybe £400 a year ....

any help welcome

Regarding a new car, as far as i know, you have to prove 100% of the car IS brand new i.e. receipts for everything...soz, not much info. but its a start. try some of the kit/buggy peeps of here?

Good luck

I believe that if it's on a Q-plate then regulations like emissions are taken at an earlier date and beyond 'no visible smoke' you should be OK.

My Fugitive is on a Q-plate and was first registered in 1986 and I have no problems.

As far as I know, Q plates are taxed on engine size, and are MOT'd on the year of the engine manufacture.

cheers for the advise guys.... so to cap it

mid mounted (rorty) chassis with audi rs6 twin turbo v8 with a ghia shell, would be taxed from when it was first registered e.g 1970 and insured as a modded ghia ?

or would the tax be govered by the age of the chassis which would be new ?

what happens as far as the chassis number ?
