Hi guys,

Purchased a Beetle which on the whole is original paint, some one has sprayed primer on the roof over the original paint.

What do you recommend to remove this primer without damaging the original paint below?

Thanks,
Lee

I once scrubbed primer graffiti (and the whole bus) with thinners, it came up lovely. Might have been 2 pac paint under though. Also used thinners to remove newer paint on a bus roof - it did dull the og paint under but didn't wash it off.

Oven cleaner is remarkably useful, excellent to clean up seat vinyl, remove oil and sludge in engine bay etc. Iuser it on my firewall and steel panels in engine bay roof with zero damage to the underlying og paint so I'd give that a go first. Then thinners. Sanding would be bottom of my list as a last resort when all else failed.

Oven cleaner is great for degreasing an oily engine bay and hasn't done any damage to the OG paint in my experience....but that wasn't what you asked

Maybe some sort of solvent could work well. Something a little stronger than white spirit, but not paint stripper. Check our your wife's nail varnish remover
Oven cleaner.........Any type or the generic Mr Muscle type aeresol stuff? Cheers!
