Okay run monkeys, whatcha been up to?
I haven't run for about three months. I plan on starting again this week as I want to complete a half marathon in under two hours. This is doable as the one and only half marathon I've run was finished in a time of 2:00:38! Just over half a minute to shave off...:D

30th March.
I think mine is about three weeks later. I still haven't started yet! I was going to go out this evening but was too tired and hungry after work. I've just finished my dinner. It will probably be Thursday evening now before I start...

You and your hills :D I went for a 3 miler last night to start the week. Nothing special about that but I couldn't have wanted to go less; late home from work, had to go to the dentist first, dark & rainy, had to get changed in the road because I didn't have time to change at work (yes really!). So the fact I still went, even after all, made me a little pleased with myself.
:)
Fair fucking play to you!

EDIT - That's what I should have done last night...

I'm heading out for a run with a group this morning. We're supposed to be running six miles...but I haven't run in three or so months. It's going to kill me, isn't it? :D

It didn't kill me...but I didn't do all of it! I took a shortcut. Covered 5.3 miles though so I was fairly pleased with that :)

To all the runners/joggers on this thread...advice please (on two counts) -

How often should you change your trainers? After a certain mileage or a certain length of time?

Can you recommend a watch/sat nav thingy that tells you how far you've run and at what pace?

Thanks in advance :)

I've been told around 500 miles is an average lifetime for a pair of running shoes and it seems to work for me.

For reviews of watches google dcrainmaker (i cant embed links from my phone). When i was looking about 12m ago £100 would get a basic gps, i wanted to "future proof" so spent £150 on a garmin 410 and love it. It works straight out of the box or you can play around with it to customise. It does more than i currently need but might use one day. It also looks like a regular watch rather than a brick on your wrist. My advice would be to determine budget then decide what functions you need, i find most useful instantaneous lap pace to tell you how fast you are running the current lap, also its got a heart rate monitor(not all do). I'm sure i'll think of other useful features later:)
I think 500 miles is the limit of most trainers life. I get a new pair about every six months or whenever I see an offer on the ones I run in. Normally, I'll have several pairs on the go and I swap and change depending on the terrain, my trail ones seem to last longer.

I've never bothered with any devices other than a watch, my mate swears by the Strava app though.
Yup, 500 miles or when your feet / legs tell you otherwise... I have a pair that are still comfy, but are taking the stage of being smooth on the bottom so will be retired soon.

For tracking I use my phone and endomondo. I used to use a hrm as well, but disliked the chest strap. I've been looking at the mio alpha and adidas micoach. I liked the mio I borrowed from work, but not yet had chance to try the adidas we have.
Cheers guys. I don't have one of those fancy iPhone things...and wouldn't have anywhere to carry it whilst running anyway. I'll check out the 'google dcrainmaker' and the 'garmin 410'. As for the 500 mile thing...I have absolutely no idea how far I've run in my current pair. I can't imagine I've run 500 miles in them...

It looks grim out there, dark, cold and rain/sleet. I'm going to step outside for a while.
Wet and very windy here. I'm heading out shortly for a seven miler.

We managed 19K in just under two hours. It was grim weather, but enjoyable once warmed up. My hands were like blocks of ice, I hate cold hands!

One of the girls could've quite easily gone faster and gone under the two hour target she's set herself for the half marathon. Another should be okay by the race, but we'll have to work hard on the last one to get her under two hours.
Good work!

I did 7.2 miles in an hour and seven minutes :)

I did four miles last night. Same course as last week and the week before. I struggled last week and had to stop and walk a few times (I think I set out too fast). Last night was a breeze :)

Completed the Great Bentley half marathon in 1hr 32min this morning in pretty much constant 20-25mph winds.
That's a brilliant time! Good work!

I've been told off for not mentioning No.3 child's run on Saturday.

She did her fourth Park Run on Saturday and clocked a 5K time of 35:08, she's five. :D
:D That's class!

I was out yesterday morning and ran just under eleven miles. It was quite comfortable apart from the last mile or two. Brought back memories of my marathon training last year...it was always the last couple of miles I had difficulty with.

My Garmin FR10 arrived in the post on Thursday so it got it's first outing yesterday. I hadn't run since last Sunday (alomost 11 miles). I covered 12.3 miles in an hour and 55 minutes at 9:20min/miles and burned 1450kcals! :D

I'm on a treadmill and no idea if i'm doing any good?

I do 5k's on a 0.5 incline and today i did it in 29mins 55seconds. i was doing it in 32mins ish.

is that any good? i hope so because i was bloody knackered! i do it everyday.
Well...

Good is a relative term.

You're two minutes faster than you was, which is great.;)
WHS ^^^

This ^^^ For 5km I would be aiming it for about 20/21 mins, and for me that is bad, last summer I would of been at 19mins odd. That isn't to say your time is bad, there is no such thing as a "bad" time, merely good and bad for each person.
I've only ever run one properly timed 5km and it was about the 24min mark. That was early last year when I'd just started running. Now that I have a Garmin watch, I'll be able to time myself without having to do a proper timed run. It was able to tell me that my fastest 5km on my 12 mile run last Sunday was just over 28mins.
