I'm back on it after the marathon. 12 miles on Saturday last and boy was I in for a shock  After 2 weeks break it was hard, real hard. Very hard to believe I'd ran 26.2 miles a fortnight before!! So much so that I changed my plan to 'only' run twice a week and now hope to be out 3 times a week.
Still, I did it and I'm back which is important. 12.2 miles in 2hrs 10mins. I'm still no Ethiopian but I'm happy with that.
6 miles tonight and hopefully 8 miles on Thursday.
:)

I'm being particularly rubbish at the moment, thus the lack of update.
However, if tomorrow is a good day, then I will get back on it ;)
Good man, update tonight then?
:D

Think I may have returned to running too soon or done too much on Saturday. I managed 5 miles last night in 48 mins which is very quick (for me) but had very achey legs and wanted to quit. Gonna give the weekend's 12 miler a miss I think and build back up again slowly.

After running a marathon its important to keep running.
You shouldn't leave it too long.
You should also have a training plan for after the marathon as well as before it.
Very true. I had 13 days off after the VLM and ran 12 miles. Very hard but I did it. The drop off in fitness in such a short time was shocking and unexpected. I did 5 miles on Tuesday night and will do the same tonight. At the weekend I'll aim a little lower than last weekend's 12 miler (8 miles I think?). I then plan to run 3 times a week gradually building on these figures before my half marathon in October.

I am really paranoid about my weight and my iPhone app says that I am only burning 200 calories per 2.5k jog, but because I am in the early stages I must be burning more than that.

I am relying on good calories to keep it all check.
This is where I can help....

Problem with me is that I am quite a healthy eater, so I may have to top up those calories via voddy perhaps now?!
Voddy is actually quite healthy (liver aside). As a serial dieter I've had to switch to Vodka or White rum when dieting rather than beer to shed the lbs. Time to get you on real ale and pizza lady.

Mmmm - pizza, the cornerstone of any nutritious diet and our Friday night special. Homemade, none of that processed muck

Nyom, nyom. Ya see Kackers, I put on half a stone just looking at that  Anyways, back on track. My calf muscles were twinging tonight so I stopped at 2 miles to see a beetle buddy and his '67 bug, then took a shortcut home (about a mile). I think I'll save myself for the weekend to save injury.

Todays run..... did not go well
I stared off by a walm up walk.... wasn't feeling great, then went into a fast pace run for about 0.5km, slowed to a reasonable pace jog for the rest...
Then started walking, approximately 0.5k... then light jogged for 1k.... then...
Gave up and walked home :(
Keep at it fella  If I can offer one piece of advice and I'm no pro runner as you know. That shit feeling at the beginning of a run where you don't wanna carry on. It's normal and it doesn't go away. It still takes me 3-6 miles to settle down into a run. This is where running can be mentally challenging too. It'll come and you'll learn to deal with it but it ain't just you, it happens to everyone!

How are you lot doing?

Is it not just too hot to run now?!
I hate running in the heat. I did 6 miles on Thursday night and it was just about bearable. To avoid the worst of Sunday's heat I set my alarm for 7.30am  to do it then but (there's always a but!) I woke up with a snotty nose and sore throat, that's right kids; manflu :( I feel better now but have lost my voice. Hoping to do 6 miles tomorrow night.

Woke this morning totally bunged up, barely no voice and a throat that is just so sore.
Snap! :( Although I feel worse because I'm a man and therefore the symptoms are multiplied by 100. As such my running is on hold.

Managed to get out for a 6 miler on Saturday despite it being Bank Holiday so I'm pleased with myself and hope to carry on that momentum and run tonight if the fecking rain goes away. How about everyone else?

i treated myself to some new brooks running shoes last week after my hitecs died
Good shoes Brooks, without the price tag! I bought some Mizuno's as I preferred them slightly to the Brooks (£120 for them, the Brooks were £70 ) when I got my gait analysed before the marathon but Brooks were just as good if I'm honest but I fell for the named brand.
Good luck with the run Sunday.

you'd be shocked how much i paid!! mine are last years model! brand new in box delivered to my door for £23

i was reccomended the brooks glycerin7 but i got my glycerin6's off ebay!
Bargain. Now I know i have a neutral gait I'm gonna just buy from a sports shop. The first pair I bought for a 10k last May were a pair of Asics for £25 and they were great. Got me through 4 10k's, 1 10 miler a half marathon and most of my marathon training for £25!

Right fuckers, thought I'd bring this thread back from the dead to see where we're all at.

I'll start with me. I had a a poor weigh-in today of....

16st 10lbs 6ou

....that's nearly 11lbs since the marathon (2 months ago). To be fair, I have been on holiday followed by a week's illness but still, I need to get out running tonight. I feel so unfit. If didn't have a medal I'd never believe I was able to run a marathon in April. It's amazing and soul destroying to see how quick the ability goes away.

:(

I am entering a local 10k at the end of July to give me something to aim for and have a half marathon in October. What about the rest of ya?

Well I did it!

Did the Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10K run yesterday, was hard work in the heat, but I managed to run all the way, did it in 1hr 16mins which is better than my target of 1hr 30mins :)

I'm built for comfort not speed!

I may sign up for the York 10K on the 1st August to keep a target for my training, I'll have a target of 1hr 10mins next :D
Congrats you must be chuffed! I recommence my running career today. I've entered the Leigh Sports Village Legacy 10K on the 25th July to give me some motivation. After speaking to my brother over the weekend it seems I may have access to a guaranteed place in next year's marathon too  Best stop eating the pies again :D

I am 'back on the horse' so to speak :D 10km run tonight in 62 minutes. Really chuffed because I haven't run for 3 weeks and my boozing and eating habits have been out of control. To do 10km straight out of the box is really pleasing.
Good job too, that 10km race I entered is only 2 weeks away  Tonight was a huge confidence boost and I'm glad I've retained at least some of the ability gained during my marathon training.
Cheers,
Andy

That is superb running dude, well done.
Cheers, been meaning to post on your thread. Been following it. You know I said you had ages to go when I was training for the marathon....not any more  Doesn't time fly!

The time really has flown by, only 3 months to go . I am running 3 times a week, will be extending the distances during August.

Ran a 5 mile offroad race on Sunday in 39:07, last Thursday did a road run (not a race) 9 miles in 1Hr 19mins. Both runs with the running club. Will be running tomorrow morning and then Thursday night with the running club.

:D
I bet this fecking heat ain't helping. I hate running in heat. I seriously thought I'd only manage about 3 miles tonight so I took no water. Big mistake!! I downed about 2 pints of water when I got in.
How's Paul getting on?
