Anyone else on here have that feeling that they are no way near fit enough and think that taking up running is a good idea?

I started about a month ago, but am struggling massively at the moment..... Can't seem to get going and am lacking motivation to improve.

Does anyone on here know how much I should be starting with, and how often and have any hints on ways to improve?

I want to set myself a challenge....... target, but not sure what is achievable. (I'm really unfit and need to start from the beginning)

Right, you guys have inspired me.

I'm late 30's, almost as wide as I am tall and want to see my kids reach double figures. Don't get out on my bikes as much as I'd like so evening running will be the way forward.

I've just mapped my route on mapmyrun, downloaded the couch to 5k planner and added the schedule to my Google calendar.

Kids clubs, Beavers and the missus working late means that I'll start this Wednesday then Friday nights and Sunday mornings.

Good to hear about your progress, I'll update on Wednesday after my first adventure.
Good on you! Update on here so we can all encouage each other!

I can only say that the right trainers are the way!

Oh there is quite a few of us now!
good to know vzi is getting fit

Over time running really has improved my overall fitness and stamina. Keep at it :)
Anyone know how long it takes them to run 1.5 miles? :)
I can't run that far yet!!
I'm not fast. I ran 5 miles in just under 46 yesterday. take that as 9 min miles, and 1.5 miles is about 13.5 mins

Fastest I did 5 miles so far is 44.20

Hmm just thought about this - i sometimes do 3 miles. best I did 3 miles is 22.40 which works out at 7.5 min mile, so 1.5 miles would be under 11 mins.

guess it varies :D

3 miles in 22.40 = Nice pace! :)

Im trying to get 1.5 miles in 9.20:D
I have just osrted out iPhone and bought the app Runkeeper Pro!!

I should now be able to directly update my FB page and here with the stats everytime I have a run!

Now I can see data, I will be able to watch and hopefully get to that 5K in 7 weeks!

:D
Good work everyone :)

I went out this morning and got caught in some torrential rain, never one to quit, I completed the run... although by the end, I was not feeling great. :(

Fingers crossed Wednesday will be better.... who knows though.

Tomorrow evening is a 10 mile ride and weight training....

Who needs gym membership eh
I am on my rest day today, but I wander to the allotment after work (2 mile walk).

Tomorrow is supposed to be 30 mins brisk walk but I may try another sneaky run!

:D I am already addicted!
i did my 1st walk this morning ,not exactly life changing but its a start:D

OMG OMG OMG

Last night I jogged almost 2k.

This morning I feel great with no leg pain at all.

I have never jogged that far before and I am so pleased, but was gutted as my iphone threw a wobbly so it never got logged on Runkeeper!!!

I am attempting to do it again on Friday!

how are you lot getting on? :D
I am taking off a few days from running, due to recurring injuries: toe, ankle and hamstring. I ran almost 60 miles in total last week, so wont go back out again until Sunday.

60 miles? 60 miles???

Bloody hell fella, that is immense.

No wonder your toe hurts!!!
I just started again this week. Go for a quick run after cycling in.

My office is three floors up and I'm having trouble getting up and down the stairs as my legs are shafted
I went out last night and I ran my furthest distance so far.

10 mins after getting my legs shrunk by at least 3 inches!!!

I'm back on it after the marathon. 12 miles on Saturday last and boy was I in for a shock  After 2 weeks break it was hard, real hard. Very hard to believe I'd ran 26.2 miles a fortnight before!! So much so that I changed my plan to 'only' run twice a week and now hope to be out 3 times a week.
Still, I did it and I'm back which is important. 12.2 miles in 2hrs 10mins. I'm still no Ethiopian but I'm happy with that.
6 miles tonight and hopefully 8 miles on Thursday.
:)
I'm being particularly rubbish at the moment, thus the lack of update.
However, if tomorrow is a good day, then I will get back on it ;)
Good to see the amount of exercise fans on here:)

I wanted to focus more on running this year and less on weights so quit the gym. We've got a new route, still approx 5 miles, but more interesting and great for interval training. We're running most days now and having great fun.

For anyone with aches and pains, please persevere - Mrs T, always a keen runner, had a triple break on her ankle last April (she was gutted to be laid up for months), has been running again since October and is now back to full strength. It took alot of work with a sports physio and on her own, but, as Vic Reeves says 'she wouldn't let it lie!'

Happy running:)
im back on the training after my afghan hols! been running on off for a fortnight! (was meant to be out everyday but some family issues that ended up taking precidence!)

i went out yesterday and did my 3.2 mile run in my lunch break! i ran the whole way but only did a 29:34 i was quite dissapointed but i put it dont to being exhausted! so i had a good sleep last night and ate breakfast (also ate 2 wispa golds and half a pack of biccies before lunch!)

anyway went out and did my 3.2 mile run again at lunch! i managed to beat my pb by 47 seconds knocking 4 minutes off my time yesterday!:D not bad for someone who weighs 18 1/2 stone!

i have a 5k race for heroes run in early june! (i have run a lot further than this but the charity means a lot to me!)
I also have 3 half marathons planned culminating with a (hopefully) marathon in late sept early oct!!

got told about a cunning little trick today to help with energy levels whilst running (gonna try it tommorrow so will let you know how it goes)

instead of lucozade tablets sports gels etc before you run have a teaspoon of honey (prefferably newzealand manuka) as its meant to be as good as a majority of sports gels!!
