Anyone else on here have that feeling that they are no way near fit enough and think that taking up running is a good idea?

I started about a month ago, but am struggling massively at the moment..... Can't seem to get going and am lacking motivation to improve.

Does anyone on here know how much I should be starting with, and how often and have any hints on ways to improve?

I want to set myself a challenge....... target, but not sure what is achievable. (I'm really unfit and need to start from the beginning)

I'm being particularly rubbish at the moment, thus the lack of update.
However, if tomorrow is a good day, then I will get back on it ;)
Good man, update tonight then?
:D

I'm back on it after the marathon. 12 miles on Saturday last and boy was I in for a shock  After 2 weeks break it was hard, real hard. Very hard to believe I'd ran 26.2 miles a fortnight before!! So much so that I changed my plan to 'only' run twice a week and now hope to be out 3 times a week.
Still, I did it and I'm back which is important. 12.2 miles in 2hrs 10mins. I'm still no Ethiopian but I'm happy with that.
6 miles tonight and hopefully 8 miles on Thursday.
:)
Think I may have returned to running too soon or done too much on Saturday. I managed 5 miles last night in 48 mins which is very quick (for me) but had very achey legs and wanted to quit. Gonna give the weekend's 12 miler a miss I think and build back up again slowly.
:)
I shall go out at 6pm for my 4th run.

My legs feel good but my lungs hurt today.

I am aiming to equal Mondays running, and I must and will remember to change my stats to jogging instead of walking now.

I still cannot believe how much I have done in just 3 runs after such a long time out, and before I quit I was not even running this much!!! I also cant believe that i am this excited over 3k, god knows what will happen when I do my first 5k!!!!!

It's all in the trainers!!!

mmmmmmm, I love honey so please do keep us updated! :D
Well....

Today did go VERY well.... but not in terms of running, I had a good day and then ended up going out on the bike instead...

I need to be kicked into shape...

:D
After going down with a cold I had to delay last weeks start date but went out for the first time last night.

I'm doing the Couch to 5k programme and thought it was pretty cool, felt good afterwards despite having calves of steel that made me walk like I'd shat myself.

This morning it's my shoulders that feel stiff so I'm going to look at a good stretching plan and carry on Friday.

Nicely done, just keep at it - better than watching TV and scoffing pies:)

I disagree.
After running a marathon its important to keep running.
You shouldn't leave it too long.
You should also have a training plan for after the marathon as well as before it.

Very true. I had 13 days off after the VLM and ran 12 miles. Very hard but I did it. The drop off in fitness in such a short time was shocking and unexpected. I did 5 miles on Tuesday night and will do the same tonight. At the weekend I'll aim a little lower than last weekend's 12 miler (8 miles I think?). I then plan to run 3 times a week gradually building on these figures before my half marathon in October.

My biggest fear is loosing weight!

I am eating more pies than ever before!

I am working on trying to ensure that my weight stays even!

I still can't believe that after 20 years of 30+ **** a day I am already running for 18 mins!!!!

I am already addicted (both to running and now pies!!!!!)!!!
haha! ive somehow managed to lose 4 pounds in 7 weeks (down to 12 stone now), but same as you i dont want to lose any more as I'm 6ft 2in and slim enough as it is!

Think I might enter a 10k race in september, cant beleive how expensive they are nowadays though! last one i did was £7.50 back in 2003, same race is now £16!
I am really paranoid about my weight and my iPhone app says that I am only burning 200 calories per 2.5k jog, but because I am in the early stages I must be burning more than that.

I am relying on good calories to keep it all check.

I am would wet myself if I could do a 5k by august so my 10k will be for next year!

How long have you been running for?

Oh Smull you do make me really really roar with laughter!!!!

Problem with me is that I am quite a healthy eater, so I may have to top up those calories via voddy perhaps now?!

Voddy is actually quite healthy (liver aside). As a serial dieter I've had to switch to Vodka or White rum when dieting rather than beer to shed the lbs. Time to get you on real ale and pizza lady.
:D
I have never had a pint (well only voddy pints) in my life. I have never had beer, larger or anything like that.

Pizza could sway me, so maybe pizza, voddy and cake will be the way!!!!!

I may weigh myself this weekend but I know that I have lost some as my trousers feel a bit loose!
Mmmm - pizza, the cornerstone of any nutritious diet and our Friday night special. Homemade, none of that processed muck

OMG, that does look bloody lovely...... I love eggs and now I want a pizza like that!!!!!

I may well have to consider over compensating and eating 2 or 3 times that calories that my iphone says I am using just incase!!!!
