Anyone else on here have that feeling that they are no way near fit enough and think that taking up running is a good idea?

I started about a month ago, but am struggling massively at the moment..... Can't seem to get going and am lacking motivation to improve.

Does anyone on here know how much I should be starting with, and how often and have any hints on ways to improve?

I want to set myself a challenge....... target, but not sure what is achievable. (I'm really unfit and need to start from the beginning)

I decided to go for a 2 mile walk and I felt shocking on my return!

I feel as though I may be now coming down with a cold, but I shall fight it!!
That is me, only it was just 6 months ago.

My goal is to run 5k in a race in september!! I believe in taking things slowly!!!

I am a scrawny bird so I am just trying to do the running to get my lungs cleaned up and running again.

I have managed 2.6 in one jog, but my lungs killed me.

I have had some weird bug and have not been eating for about 4 days so I dare not run as I reckon it will cause unecessary fainting!!!!
something i found that helped in the cross over period was vicks vapour rub!! healthy dollop on the chest before running! really helped!

Oh thanks for that, I will try it.

Woke this morning totally bunged up, barely no voice and a throat that is just so sore.

I have been off colour with a 4 day tummy bug thing so I think that I was so run down that now I have a cold from hel!!!

And they say jogging is meant to make you healthy!!!

Snap! :( Although I feel worse because I'm a man and therefore the symptoms are multiplied by 100. As such my running is on hold.

I can't bloody believe it.

Still the good news is that the tummy thing feels better so I can eat through it!!! Feed a cold and all that!!!!

I sound all husky but no-one realises how much it hurts when I talk!!!

It is the first cold for ages... so I will be fighting it all the way.

Early night and lots of OJ and I should be better in a few days!!! I have too much planned to be bloody ill!
Managed to get out for a 6 miler on Saturday despite it being Bank Holiday so I'm pleased with myself and hope to carry on that momentum and run tonight if the fecking rain goes away. How about everyone else?
I am having a big fat fail :(

I have felt so rough that I walked 4 miles on Sunday and it knocked me for six.

I keep laughing as I started running, and have been feeling so rough since then!!!

I can't wait for it to pass so that I can get back on it!!!!!

at the minute I can barely walk to my car let alone jog anywhere!!!!

Out with the drama llama........ well, it has been a while..... :D
Not good recently, been really busy with the new job etc, so I've been working 9 - 8 most days, and then been too tired to run.
I was planning on running over the weekend...... but worked again :(

Back on it this week I think ;)

You are many things, but big fat and fail is not you matey.

If you are not on full fitness, then leave the exercise until you are feeling 100%

Bless you and thanks.

I am so spaced out and shattered at the minute!

I very slowly ran 2.6km and when I got home, feel asleep for 2 hours and that can't be right can it?!!!

So do I as I am getting jack shit done at the moment!!!!
i have had the last 6 days off running! (too busy trying to sort my mums car out! and then pond rebuilding)

i treated myself to some new brooks running shoes last week after my hitecs died, bought some new shorts and a vest yesterday and some new socks and got back on the wagon!
i was a bit dubious of running today as i was aching like hell this morning (joints sore from the pond redesign!) anyway went out at lunch for a 5k! beautiful weather very light headwind anyway long story i have just knocked 40 seconds off my best! without really pushing myself! to say i am chuffed is an understatement! had a really bad week last week running slower and slower! but it seems that the rest this week has done me the world of good!
got my first race on sunday and hoping to put a good time in! (400 runners and i am hoping i can be in the upper half of that number for the first time ever!!;))

Good shoes Brooks, without the price tag! I bought some Mizuno's as I preferred them slightly to the Brooks (£120 for them, the Brooks were £70 ) when I got my gait analysed before the marathon but Brooks were just as good if I'm honest but I fell for the named brand.
Good luck with the run Sunday.

Bargain. Now I know i have a neutral gait I'm gonna just buy from a sports shop. The first pair I bought for a 10k last May were a pair of Asics for £25 and they were great. Got me through 4 10k's, 1 10 miler a half marathon and most of my marathon training for £25!
just finished my 5km help for heroes race today!
cycled to it! ran it cycled home!!

i ran it in 24 mins 10 seconds! was really happy with that as it knocked 1 minute 52 off my pb! :D

Well done and a very good time too. :)
Oooo I have been running quite a bit since we moved house last year.

Was managing about 5k's and actually did a 10K with difficulty, but now I am running three times a week and running regular half marathons, and will be doing the Beachy Head Marathon this year too...I must say I am addicted to running now.
