Anyone else on here have that feeling that they are no way near fit enough and think that taking up running is a good idea?

I started about a month ago, but am struggling massively at the moment..... Can't seem to get going and am lacking motivation to improve.

Does anyone on here know how much I should be starting with, and how often and have any hints on ways to improve?

I want to set myself a challenge....... target, but not sure what is achievable. (I'm really unfit and need to start from the beginning)

Right fuckers, thought I'd bring this thread back from the dead to see where we're all at.

I'll start with me. I had a a poor weigh-in today of....

16st 10lbs 6ou

....that's nearly 11lbs since the marathon (2 months ago). To be fair, I have been on holiday followed by a week's illness but still, I need to get out running tonight. I feel so unfit. If didn't have a medal I'd never believe I was able to run a marathon in April. It's amazing and soul destroying to see how quick the ability goes away.

:(

I am entering a local 10k at the end of July to give me something to aim for and have a half marathon in October. What about the rest of ya?
I'm running 10K on Sunday!

Chances are it'll finish me off, it's been nice being here...
I am struggling in this heat, especially as I am so small to start with.

I am going to have another cunning plan, but it is will not be until the end of the week I suspect!!!!

I've been off the wagon for a month or two. Going to sort it out soon :)

I just panic as in this heat I am loosing weight quicker than you can shake a stick at.

As I am already scrawny, I have dropped the running for a while. it is so hot, I don't how people do it. It is rather un-glamourous really!!! :D

I hate you.
:incheek::lol:
It's not good though, as it just makes me grumpy and as weak as a kitten!!!!

I am feeling motivated again by the resurrection of this thread!!!

It is cloudy so tonight I should just do it........ and then maybe have a run afterwards!!!  I should be so lucky and will have to make do with just the run!! :D
Think it's about time I joined in with this thread.

To set the scene, I smoked from the age of 13 and was a good 20 a dy smoker by the time I gave up at 26. Managed three years of not smoking until last August when I picked it back up again and returned to 20 a day. During my time time as a smoker I've hit 19 1/2 stone at times (6' 2" so never seemed that bad!)

About 6 weeks ago I finally managed to knock the smoking on the head again and decided it was time to get fit. At this point I weighed around 18st. Although I used to do cross country once a week at school I haven't done any running since then (I'm now 30).

I've been running for about 4 weeks or so now, and after starting with just over a mile I have today managed to cover a 2.75 mile route in just over 24 minutes and through a combination of excercise and changes in my diet my weight is down to around 16 1/2 stone.
Well I did it!

Did the Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10K run yesterday, was hard work in the heat, but I managed to run all the way, did it in 1hr 16mins which is better than my target of 1hr 30mins :)

I'm built for comfort not speed!

I may sign up for the York 10K on the 1st August to keep a target for my training, I'll have a target of 1hr 10mins next :D

:D Fantastic, you must be really buzzing.

I take my hat off to you, as I am trying to run about 8pm, but its working out too well with eating and stuff!!!!

I just can't run in this heat, I loose about half a stone every km!!!!

Congrats you must be chuffed! I recommence my running career today. I've entered the Leigh Sports Village Legacy 10K on the 25th July to give me some motivation. After speaking to my brother over the weekend it seems I may have access to a guaranteed place in next year's marathon too  Best stop eating the pies again :D

I am 'back on the horse' so to speak :D 10km run tonight in 62 minutes. Really chuffed because I haven't run for 3 weeks and my boozing and eating habits have been out of control. To do 10km straight out of the box is really pleasing.
Good job too, that 10km race I entered is only 2 weeks away  Tonight was a huge confidence boost and I'm glad I've retained at least some of the ability gained during my marathon training.
Cheers,
Andy

The time really has flown by, only 3 months to go . I am running 3 times a week, will be extending the distances during August.

Ran a 5 mile offroad race on Sunday in 39:07, last Thursday did a road run (not a race) 9 miles in 1Hr 19mins. Both runs with the running club. Will be running tomorrow morning and then Thursday night with the running club.

I bet this fecking heat ain't helping. I hate running in heat. I seriously thought I'd only manage about 3 miles tonight so I took no water. Big mistake!! I downed about 2 pints of water when I got in.
How's Paul getting on?
You just adjust to the warmer temperature, just make sure you hydrate an hour or so before running. I am finding my times are much better now than back in Feb-March. I will send Paul a message and see how he is getting on.
