I've seen on many forums, many safe top rpms for cruising at in a stock 1600 twin port.
From 3500 to 4500.
So, what in peoples opinion is a safe top cruising RPM for a stock 1600 twin port with twin ICT's and no other engine mods? And when I say cruising I mean on a motorway for 60 to 80 mile between breaks.
I've used gear ratio calculators to work out the theoretical speeds and 3500 and 4500 with my AB gearbox and 225/60r15 tyres65 and 84 respectively.

I used to run my bay westy with AS 1600 foot to the floor at just under 4500 (rev limiter rotor arm) which was about 70-75mph once up to ramming speed on the motorway for an hour or so. Oil temp stayed under 120c and she seemed pretty happy.
What was the gear ratio in your tranny? and were you running stock size tyres?

The more revs you do, and for a long duration of time the more likely the crank case on your recon motor will pound out the bearing saddles due to the use of a standard vw crank, fly, clutch, bottom pulley assembly. Unless that is a very careful balance job has been done, which I doubt with an off the shelf recon motor.

Stock 1600/1700 3 rib box (think it was 5.375:1 ratio) with stock 185r14 tyres.
My 1300 single port beetle is happiest at around 3500-4000 though.
