Just been to the engineers' merchants.

According to the chap behind the counter they have one customer who put a 911 engine in "they fit straight in you know" and another one who has a really old beetle that's made into a dragster. It's a really old one as it has a split window "at the front"

You just gotta love people who spin myth into reality for effect. :D
It amazes me that there are any 80's porsches left. The number that donated their engines to fit straight into a beetle is amazing.
Got a mate who has a mate , he has a split screen That has a 2.7 911 in it and the water pumps gone  he wants about 20000 for it

True that

:D
Do you reckon Porche owners get the opposite? :bandit:

Haha,

Some bloke down the pub reckons his mate has an RS with a 1200 single port in it :D
I actually nearly came to blows with some OIK in a fiat punto telling me how his mate had put a 911 engine in a beetle when he was at school, and then telling me that I didn't know what I was on about, cos they DO fit cos HE'S seen one.

No mate, I've got no idea when it comes to dropping different engines in the back of VW's, none at all ;)

I can't remember which mag this was in, but I do remember seeing pics of a bug that some guy had done the whole 50's Kustom thing on - including grafting a split windscreen into it. As i'm feeling generous this arvo, i'm going to suggest that coincidences do happen, and our knowledgeable parts man is indeed telling the truth.

Statistically he must be right anyway, all the beetles i've bought had porsche 911 engines in them that i found in my local scrappy for £20 a piece. Sorry, its been turned into flats now, so you can't go looking there. :incheek:
I normally win the 'fits right in' arguement by asking them where the extra two cylinders fit in. ;)
The thing is, there was originally an element of truth in it because the Porsche 356 engine would indeed "bolt straight in" to a Bug.

Quite how the transition from a 4 cylinder 356 lump to a stonking great 6 cylinder 911 lump came about - well your guess is as good as mine!

lump may have, but the tinware, that's another matter ;), you have to do a lot of fucking about to get a 912/356 engine in there in all honesty, and once you've done it, you may as well have build a decent 1776 ;)

Yeah, but I never said anything about running it afterwards! :incheek:

no FWB
spent a while thinking about it first, but the actual fitting was done in a day, and that's with plenty of tea supping! no tinware mods (just left a couple of bits out!). needed some bug bodywork trimming (around bumper mounts and engine trays) but that's what grinders are for. exhaust was the worst bit, oh and hooking up the linkage.

nice conversion in a bug.
but as for the six-cylinder job... hmm, that'll have to go in a van!
