I cant get my van to start, its turning over but just wont fire up.
its a 66 splitty, 1641 engine, 009 dizzy with 32/36 carb.
Has been sat for a month (prior to which i got towed home because of fuses blowing - the one that the coil goes to). Now the fuses seem ok but it just wont start.
I have tried changing the leads, coil, rotor arm, plugs and there is a spark getting to the plugs. As soon as i touch the accelerator it backfires, so people keep telling me its flooded. So i clamped off the fuel pipe and it still wont start.
Also there seems to be a strong smell of petrol -is this just unburnt fuel?
HI I THINK MAYBE YOUR COIL WAS BURNT OUT HENCH BLOWING FUSE BUT NOW U HAVE FITTED NEW ONE HENCH SPARK SO I WOULD SUGGEST TIMING IS OUT IS DIZZY LOSE OR MAYBE PLUG LEADS WRONG ORDER OR 180 DEGS OUT?
