1956 split with straight axle converion & 12 volt 1600 t/p engine

It has a"12 volt" DB code gearbox (I think they fitted type 3s) which I have used for a straight axle conversion

The starter is the original 6v type but fitted to the 12v box with the approriate starter motor bush.

I tried to start the van @ the weekend but the starter doesnt engage with the engine but the starter does "spin" as you can hear it.

Do I have the wrong combination starter/gearbox or is there another issue I dont know about?

Help please as I was v disappointed when it would start.

thanks

I have used a 6 volt starter on a 12v flywheel engine in a bug b4 with no problems so dont know why in this instance it should be different,

the only difference in the set up here is Im using a 6 volt starter, 12 volt box & 12v engine c/w flywheel.

could it be the box is "too big" & the starter is not reaching?

I'll take a look at the conversion info anyway.
