Are there any issues with running without the tail pipe attatched? Just finished doing a load of work on my VW T2 '79 1.6 bus to get it through it's 'mock' MOT (its exempt now but for safety reasons I get it done anyway) and the damn pipe just fell off! Was planning on going away this weekend and if it's not really going to affect anything I will wait.

I seem to remember that a side exit exhaust is something that should be picked-up on a MOT test, if it points to the kerb (something about hot exhaust gasses directed at pedestrian's ankles, dogs etc.). Some exhausts have that curved bit as a separate piece which is clamped on to a damper pipe.

Ok thanks Bada Ben, I’m totally fine with crisping up a few ppl/dogs 😜 was really only worried something bad might happen to the bus running it like that… I don’t really think it would but have been caught out before on stuff that seems totally not obvious so worth an ask =]

Aside from the noise and sooty ankles you won't hurt the engine.
