What was he thinking????

I swear they probably had the most beautiful smelling oil in the world and were about to release it when he must have had a mechanic screw him over or something.
So he thought.... "i know, im gunna make it stink to high heaven of a mixture of old currys, cat piss and just about every other foul smelling thing on the universe to get my revenge"

And yes... for those wondering i just had lukewarm, used, gearbox oil slowly dripping down my arm as i franticly tried to replace the bung!

I wore double layered gloves, and using swarfega gets the smell off your hands... nothing gets it out of clothing though!

thanks you two!..i spent most of yesterday finding excuses not to get covered in it,&was literally just about to go over to the garage & get on with the job!

When I did my work experience in a garage whilst still at school, I can remember being sent down into the pit that appear to be rarely used and told to drain the gearbox oil....... dirty, dirty, dirty trick to play on an innocent, eager 15 year old! I got pissing covered in the stuff!

I find it varies in stench but it can be absolutely horrendous. As said, the smell will never wash out of your clothes. :crazy:

its prob just me but i actually like the smell, never heard it refered to as smelling of cats piss, mind you, i spent a lot of my childhood on a battery chicken farm, guess once you've got used to the smell of that you can stand anything :lol:

its prob just me but i actually like the smell, never heard it refered to as smelling of cats piss, mind you, i spent a lot of my childhood on a battery chicken farm, guess once you've got used to the smell of that you can stand anything :lol:

I never used to mind it but then my mates split dumped its entire contents on his floor... i didnt notice and rolled straight into what must have been a good litre.
Worst part was it was on my shoulder so everytime i looked the wrong way it was like being punched in the face with stench!

Yep, Deezil stinks.

Hypoid, stinks too - but in a useful way, I often wondered if it smelled like that just so when you get a trickle out the bell housing you know wether to order a crankshaft seal or an input shaft seal.

Worst smell ever ? .......... got sent out to find why a drain was blocked when I was a bricklayer apprentice ( boys always got the shit jobs) Some unbelievable piece of shit had put a dog, and all her new born pups down a manhole ? ? ? ..some people ain't human.

I quite like the smell of hypoid gearbox oil, when I was 16 I aquired a MK2 Escort with a seized clutch, I remember going to 6th form with the smell of it still in my hair! Memories...

does it say in the 1972 vw owners manual "replace oil at 600 miles." i am guessing that if like a lot of boxes its been in there for a fair amount of time, it will stink!

why didnt they do like mini and use standard engine oil?
