Sneaky buggers! The Type four has a different bit for the wire to go into so the thread is different from the type 1. However, a blob of solder on a piece of throttle cable, threaded through the beetle's threaded tube means that you can use the beetle one and save a bleedin' fortune if you have a second hand beetle one. I don't understand why the prices shot up. On day they were 7.50 then they went ballistic???

Yep, the control rod screws INTO the stat on a T1 engine and a special ntu screws ONTO a stud on top of the stat on a T4 engine.

Can't see why a T1 stat cannot be modded by gluing in a length of studding into the T1 stat

Yep, or solder a length of cable into the bit where the rod threads in. That bit is removeable.
