Will it replace conventional spray jobs? Thinking of a re-spray vs getting a carbon fibre effect vinyl wrap! Might just start off on my bonnet to see how it looks.

Any of you guys got anything like this on your motor, I'm in Leicester so need someone around here that could do it.

There is a 911 for sale locally (early 996) and it is vinyl wrapped white and it looks awful. I think it has been hanging around for the best part of a year now.

If done properly it can look good, there was a fantastic white wrap job on a Passat CC that was at a few VW shows summer last year.

Way to cheap good quality materials would cost nearly that much, cheap material it will look fine for a show but dont expect more than six months out of it. Last wrap i did the bill came out at about 1500+vat and even then we had problems. Sky vans are some of the best must cost them a fortune look at some of them dont expect more than two years out of wrap.

My company car has a complete vinyl wrap. The company that did it are from Nottingham but I won't name them as we are having a lot of issues with them at the moment.

My car was done 5 months ago and within 3 weeks the front bumper looked like it had been shot with an assault rifle there were that many holes in the film. 3 months later it is peeling in a lot of places, faded and generally looks tired.

If your going to get it done make sure you get a reputable company to do it and use good quality film.

There was someone on here offering a respray for ÂŁ600 so it's not exactly cheap is it! I'm now just getting a front spoiler done in carbon fibre wrap, and from what I've heard it's a nightmare so yes I will be leaving to the pro's!

Will post pics when done

Horses for courses. It'll never replace paint because it's different. It won't replace custom paint either because people who spend decent dough on a custom vehicle won't want a wrap, they'll want fancy paint.
There is a paint guard for protecting new paint, it's clear and robust and a lot of prestige cars get it fitted to protect areas like the blue chin spoiler up there ^^^^^ but it's not a wrap as such.

Wraps are great for promotional stuff like the SKY vans. It protects the paint if done when the vans new and if it's fitted right you shouldn't get cut marks as mentioned. That said, there are plenty of vans that look like they've been wrapped by Edward Scissorhands.

The other problem with it at the moment is, like anything else, folk see it, think I can do that, get a job, make a mess of it and then that customer thinks wrapping is shit. I've got plenty of customers on their 20+ wrap who keep coming back so it works for some.

Car colour change is the next big thing if you listen to the manufacturers, but then they're in the business of selling materials. That said some of the new stuff is fantastic and for speed and vehicle down time won't be beaten by paint.
