Hope your all well guys n' gals... for those who know my year out in Australia is a month old now (its felt like five minutes) and I thought it was time I dropped in and said hi. Done too much to mention the lot... snorkelling, rainforest walks etc, plenty of bodyboarding (alright alright... I'll learn to stand up one day ), I'll get some pics of it all up soon. But for now here's what I know your all dying for...

And Im sorry but there's no feckin way Im taking an aircooled dub across the outback ...So she may not look pretty but my new reconditioned four litre wagon should do the job okay

Double matress in the back, towels for curtains, ice box, sub woofer... this is where its at

Man, what a country!

Spent a year traveling there myself in a Holden Commodore (Vauxhall cavalier estate to the uninitiated!)

Yeah Buses everywhere - saw a Split for sale for under $3000 thats less than £1500 :crazy:

I travelled all the way around and down the middle, camped in a tent most of the way and took the Commodore over some pretty crazy roads, through creeks etc, met amazing outback characters and had a real adventure!!!! Didnt break down once and the car was 22/23 years old!

Would love to get back out there if I can work out a way to emmigrate I will, loved every bit of it!

Get over to Exmouth and Coral bay on the west coast and do some snorkelling on the coral reef (ningaloo) if you havent already - you will love it! :hangloose

Hi mate,

Honestly think your best bet on the van is to fly over and hostel it for a few nights, you'l find the right one in this time if you stay somewhere like Sydney or Brisbane. I tried Aussie Autotrader etc and didnt have much luck, then walked into a hostel and there was a huge folder of ads, mainly people days away from going home and you can knock them down big time. The guys I bought my wagon from started it at $2900, it was down to $2300 by the time I got in touch and I managed to get another $200 off that. Ive seen campers drop by a couple of thousand bucks before they go!

I picked up an Aussie VW magazine last week, there are dealers and specialists listed but I havent come across any... one website I found when looking for the car actually had an article on the reliability of VW vans! I guess a lot of people just fly over and jump into the first one they can find for the image and it breaks 10 minutes down the road. But there are plenty for sale if you really want one and know your stuff.

I dont want to look at how little they must sell for (Bays are seriously cheap and much more desirable) cos I'll end up dragging one back myself! Saw a convertible Notch parked up with the roof down lastnight, guessing it was a conversion but didnt have my camera - gutted!

did 44,000 miles round oz in a bay and loved every single minute, would not have even considered doing it in anything other than an air cooled
saw plenty of waterpumpers at the side the road :incheek:

Howsit goin' peeps? After a month out mandarin picking in Mundubbera (cool name eh?) were back in civilization! Great experience, but when it got to the point of seeing citrus in our sleep we decided to hit the road again

And the big Ford is still guzzling on!

This was Noosa heads, the last bit of coast we saw before heading into the outback...

Where it rained like hell on arrival. No work just yet then...

It looks like this most evenings

Which is pretty welcome after a day of these bastards...

The reception at the campsite was class though

Hope your all having the best times at the shows... a small part of me cant wait for next summer

i took a '72 bay 25k miles around OZ, through the outback, on 4x4 tracks, never had an issue with it
you been over the harbour bridge yet, well worth the $
