Sorry guys, the Toledo gremblin has been playing in my engine and I dont know where to post this to gain ur collective wisdom.

The car was serviced and MOT'd last week and went thru with no faults. Hubby went to use it to go to work this morning and came in saying a warning light came on. I went out to have a look for him and its the coolant warning light showing its either too low or too warm.... I stuck my head under the bonnet and had a look and sure enough the coolant is waaaaay under the minimum mark. Admittedly I didnt check it last week as I assumed it wud be checked at the MOT so Im a wee bit concerned its vanished so quickly as last time that happened in another car the head gasket went!

Any ideas?

Thanks

personally what i would do is go to a store were you can buy coolant from fill your car up with the right coolant and keep an eye on it or check for leaks from your radiator and hoses etc etc :D

no worries duck :D
!!Carefull with the halfords coolant!!

I'm gonna be spending the day flushing my 2.0l new bug after putting halfords coolant in, it reacts with the factory g12 stuff and turns to jelly causing odd over heating issues,

not sure how you tell but as far as i can gather if it was pink or yellow originaly then don't put blue stuff in.

sorry to be vauge i haven't had a chance to investigate yet.:)

Oooooh thanks for the warning ... I hadnt thought of that as I assumed as long as I had the right coolant I cud chuck it in! Mines still yellow factory stuff...... does this mean I need to flush it first then put in new coolant?

Only use the factory coolant. Available fro GSF.
MOT's don't check things like coolant level.
From what i've read, you should only use factory coolant, i was told it was only available from the stealers, i'll have to give gsf a ring, bound to be cheaper!

i did hear you can flush the factory stuff out and fill with other brand coolant, but apparently it's not as good for the engine,it doesn't have the anti corrosive propeties like the factory goo,

i wish i'd known before i toppped up.

Yep gsf do it, £6ish pound for 1.5l enough for a top up, you'd need 3 for a complete refill.
argh ryt i thort you couold use halfrauds stuff learn new thing everyday :D
Well i pulled mine apart to day and i must admit i didn't find any goo!:(

oddly it turned out my thermostat had stopped working, the bottom of the rad was stone cold after a good run, and after flushing everything through with clean water i took it out and tested it just incase, 95deg and it still wouldn't open,

so new coolant, temp switch, thermostat, and £60 later, touch wood it's all good,

got everything from gsf,

got worried when after i'd put it all together and filled it back up way past the fill level, i got 2 mins down the road and the red light came on!
i must have had an air lock cause when i stopped and checked the level was low, a bit more water and back to normal.

best bit was the little tap on the bottom of the rad to drain it,:D
Oh and it turns out you need 2 bottles then fill the rest with water for a complete drain down.

Guess what.... went to the car this morning and the coolant has completely vanished!! I dont know what to do- Im trying to get it into another garage as Im loosing faith in the other one which is a Seat garage. Last time Seat charged me for a new coolant tank and cap and refill then 2 days later the warning light came on and I got them back out as it was an air lock. Ive spent so much bloody money with them on various things and just think they are taking the piss. Now we live in the middle of no-where so Im worried about trying to drive the car to the other garage with no coolant in it.

Aaaaarrrrrrrggggghhhh   :(
