You wont go wrong with any Roberts. Ive got one of those Bush retro ones at home and a Pure One Mini at work - both excellent, so for me as long it seems like its all about what style you go for?

Thanks Clem. That's already re-assuring to read. I was worried that it's all show and no go. I want it to sound good!
I would go with the Pure, it's the one that I have in my bedroom.

The Roberts is trading on its "old skool" appearance.
One thing I am perplexed about is that DAB radios like the Roberts etc all appear to only have one speaker, does that mean they are mono? Also, as DAB is perported to generate better sound why don't they have decent speakers?
Get the Marshall Pure DAB radio. You wont regret it!

I hear you Glen, i thought the same, i.e. "Am i just being made to pay more because of the retro look?"

However, a couple of people have said that they are a really good radio too.

A new question... what is the internet radio feature on some of these? Is it an important feature?

Internet radio is radio through your internet - connect to wireless & away you go. I use a squeezebox for radio - there are thousands of stations to choose from. Have a look at the tunein website to get an idea of what's available.

I see... well sounds like its an extra feature that you pay extra for and probably uneccesary then.

Just read on a review that some have pause & rewind function like you can when watching TV through a smart box, but guessing it's (yet another) feature that you pay more money to have!
Got a Pure downstairs and its great, the wife brought a Logik and its a load of crap, so stay away from Logik.

Quite possibly, especially if she generally just listens to a couple of different stations, but if you live in a basement flat like me it's a necessary feature ;)
Internet radio would be useful for all those areas where DAB reception is non existent!

Which brings up the point does your sisters gaff get DAB waves?

Agreed, but they are good pieces of kit
This one appears to have two speakers and is Stereo 2 x 5w

No idea if it sounds good though as don't have one!

That looks identical, rebranded maybe, to the Bush one I bought for my Ma's kitchen. She wanted the colour to match, make was an afterthought...

I rate the Roberts highly, have a solar DAB of theirs that I take everywhere. Have 3 others dotted around the house, the twin speaker Bush in garage is good enough sound for out there. The Pure One in the kitchen is good too, does what I want and sounds ok. I have a supermarket own brand alarm clock DAB in the bedroom but its only ever on very quiet as I drift off so can't comment on sound quality really.

In all fairness I spend most of my time listening to spoken radio so can't compare musical sound from any of them. This thread reminded me that I recommended the solar Roberts to 1302 when he was goin away on his road trip, wonder if he got one?
I bought a roberts last week - one of these

and its really good - gets decent Dab reception unlike the small Dab cube bedside radio upstairs and the sound from it is great - My mum has a portable Roberts similar to the one you show & she uses it all the time

They must be ok - The Queen uses them ( According to the royal appointment stuff on the box) :D

Thanks for the replies. No one who has owned or used a Roberts has knocked it so far, and that is the one she likes / has mentioned a couple of times. Am going to have to make the time to visit a store i suppose and do the deed!
Sales for the Pure One are good, I'd suggest getting one of them
Listening to a Pure Evoke right now, great sound and done well being on for several hours every day for 8years. The rechargable battery has packed up but thats not really a surprise I spose. It's stereo too

Not heard bad things about Roberts but never owned one

What I'd really recommend is a Vita Audio R4i (now Rauk?) but you would have to really like your sister to buy her one of those
Thanks all for your help with this. Went to John Lewis yesterday to take a look in person at both the Pure and Roberts. The sales guy said there is really nothing in it between the two so in the end i've gone for the Roberts as that was the one chosen by her. We'll see how it sounds and works after the 25th (and I am going to probably borrow it all the time anyway!). Not cheap are they!
Sure she will be very happy, great pressie!

I reckon they're great value; hundreds of hours of pleasure, no licence, no subscription, no viruses or software to update, easy to move round or take into the garden/ shed/ garage and no adverts on the dozen or so BBC channels.

Mines worked out at under a pound a month, I call that a bargain!
