OK, so I havent looked at the log book yet, but is there any way to tell a 66 from a 67?

Under bonnet filler
Under rear seat regulator
Sloped headlights

I there anything else I can check for?

Thanks all!

67's have the one year only deck lid and rear valance with the squared off lower edge like the late ones but with the length of the earlier ones (pre67's had the semi w lid with a rounded lower edge). 67's also have the late style door openers but in chrome (the post 67 ones were black plastic and the pre 67 ones are chrome turny levers). 67's also have chunky 1 year only dash knobs and window winder knobs (the pre 67 ones are slimmer and taller. Also the exterior door handles - pre 67's have a square push button whilst 67s have a round push button (one year only again). There's probably some other stuff which I've forgotten about but hopefully this will help.

Mostly true apart from the door handles, many 66 model Bugs came with round push buttons. ;)
Won't the chassis number provide you with the answer?
Thanks guys!

Its looking like it might well be a 1967.

I'd be well chuffed if it was! :D

You'll find it on the frame tunnel under the rear seat. Sometimes it's not as easy to see as others, which happened in my case. I just put a sheet of white paper over it, and rubbed it with a pencil - brass rubbing stylee ;) Ingenious I thought :D
Thanks,

goning to look at it when I get home later! :incheek:

I broke a B289er 73 a few months back - it had all of these. The sure fire way is to check the chassis number.

You could do worse mate :) Tip: It's a 10 digit number. The first two digits will be 11 (indicating a Beetle). The next digit will indicate the last digit of the year. So, if yours is 116********, it's a '66 year and if it's 117******* it's a '67 year.
More confused now....

Car is on a D Suffix plate.

Chassis number starts 118,xxx,xxx

how can it be a '66 whan the chassis was made in '68 ?

AAaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

If it's a 118, I think it could have been Aug '67 to July '68. What's the rest of it? (or PM if you don't want to put it on the thread).
chassis number starts 116 is a '66, chassis starts 117 is a '67 :)

To be honest the 67 was a bit of an oddball. Mine is a 67 model year with a 117 chassis number with all of the correct 67 only bits but its on a 'd' plate.
