I've been building my dream splitty for 3 years now. Monies dried up, the projects slowed down to a halt. I've got bigger and more important things to spend my cash on (Like a Wedding and doing home improvements)

What would you do if you were me?

Would you carry on for a few years longer building a really really good bus.

Or would you cut your losses? pay some bills and get a nice early 60's bug on the road with a big engine??

I've always wanted a bus. But now I have a house, I'm not sure what to do, wether its worth it. Even when it is finished, I've got no where to park it :(

Cars are for life - not just for Christmas.

Keep it and pick it up when the woman stops bleeding you dry... ;)

I still have loads of cars - and one woman - its a nice balance :D :D

sit on it... lock it away somewhere dry and don't worry about it until you have more money

I'm in a similar position in that I could really do with the cash out of my bus

BUT, it won't loose value... and if you have a split now you'd be wise to keep it IMHO.

Much though I'd love the £8K or more mine is worth (and it owes me less than half that) I'm going to keep it.

Aye lifes to short-get out on the road...although a type 1 will eat the money just as quick....just don`t persevere with the bus if you`re hearts not in it-it stops being a hobby and becomes a millstone around your neck :D
Your heart can still be in something but you do still consider selling and have moments of doubt... that's normal and affirming IMHO.
ohhhh keep it, put it away and come back to it when u have a little more money ;)
its a question only you can answer dude but remember....its just a car at the end of the day :)
If you think you'd really regret selling it then keep it! If you don't think you'd miss it, and it is a millstone, then maybe get something you can drive now, have fun and forget about it.

If it's any consolation, my bug took 7 years - about 5 of those were spent in storage. I'd have kicked myself if I'd sold it, as I was tempted to 6 years into the resto.
Change the wedding list to parts!!!!

You know it makes sense. I'm in the exact same situation and I'm sitting tight! ;)
its all very well selling to buy a car you can use now, but if your life is that hectic at the moment would you get time to drive a nice bug?

keep it, out it to one side and come back to it when you can.

OR convince her it need to be finished as you would like it to be her wedding car and then its all part of the wedding budget
What you should do is...

Tell your wife to be that you've decided that you're not gonna get married unless your bus is used as the wedding car. Tell her its always been your secret dream, and as the wedding will be hers, you need to realise your dream too..

And as the bride's parents traditionally pay for the wedding, her dad will pay for the full resto with a stonking 2387cc turbo, EFI engine to get you to the church on time, and your other half will also pay towards it in order to keep the wedding happening.

A win-win situation there. methinks.
