blow through would allow twin carbs, but draw through would make for easyer mounting etc. you could probably use an old SU type carb, or side draught weber/dell

i also had a look at smart car turbos last night they look like they would be a bit of a twat beacaue the turbine housing is part of the smart exhaust so you would need to make a new turbine housing to suit the bug setup!! so definately supperred for me now!! im still researching it but draw through may be the way forward! i would like to use a carb each side but single barrell to make the setup easier to create (like a standard carb) but i dont think they will be suitable!! need to research turbo carbs!!

bit of cutting and welding should work ;)

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a place to flycut 1300cc twinport heads to suit a 1200cc motor? Im near Woking if that helps?

Also

You guys already running Hot 1200cc motors have you gone full flow? If so how have you done it? Tapped the case or an alternative method?

Thanks in advance

J

i can flycut the heads, but am based the other side of oxford from you..

i would reccomend full flowing, and tapping the case is the best way to do it :) (if I had the taps I would offer to do this aswell)

Cool!

Sounds good. I wasnt gonna go crazy, just up to about 8 as its going to be used with a turbo.

Yes I need to check the deck height, sounds like I need to put it all together so that its a short block first, that way I can check the deck height. Or is there another way?

Does it matter that the heads I have dont match? I was gonna swap the 14 out and hopefully find two 16's.

Any ideas what the 14 and 16 actually mean or stand for?

Cheers,

Hey Ratfink,

Does this look like the right size tap for full flow system? If so Im tempted to get one.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HSS-NPT-Tap-3-8-x-18-TPI-Tap_W0QQitemZ360073274869QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_BOI_Metalworking_Milling_Welding_Metalworking_Supplies_ET?hash=item53d60a25f5&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1683%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

Also does that mean that all fitments and hose for a full flow system are 3/8's? Is that what size this one is below?

Im just trying to suss out what size fittings and hose I need so that I can have a hunt round and try and find a place that sells it all for a decent price.

Has anyone made up hoses like the ones in the picture? I assume its possible and a 'machine' is not needed?

Cheers,

J

Hi Guys

I'm weighing up my options at the moment and considering building up a hotish 1200 engine. But I need to ask a question... and I pretty much think I know the answer already. My girlfriend bought me a Thunderbird SP crossover exhaust for my birthday a couple of years ago if I build a 1200 it won't fit will it as the 1200 is narrower than the other engine.

Thanks

Matt

Regarding my question does this link help decipher what size should be used?

i just did one with a 3/8 tap but used 1/2-inch hose right through. check out the last ultra for a brief piece on koul tools (or do a search!) - allows you to fit pressed fittings to the end of your hoses using a vice. diy pro-pipes ;)

Hi Guys!

I'd like to jump in and say hi!

I'm thinking about building up a hot 1200 and I would like a bit of help.
First up as I've never rebuilt an engine before I'd like to know whether there are any decent books or DVD's about that'll help me out?

The plan goes as such - I have picked up a 1200 engine for the project...it's been sitting for a while but the the compression seems okay.

I've got a pair of 1300 twinport heads in cracking condition ;) (no pun intended) which I was intending to get ported and polished.

I've got a pair of Baby Dell'orto's on T/P manifolds for fueling.

I want to know what the best route to go down for a camshaft/ rockers.

And a performance exhaust...I've had a look around and the options for 1200 seem a bit limited i do have a sp thunderbird cross over which someone has said will fit with a little cut and shut.

The car i've got is a '69 1500 but that engine is dubious at best as the previous owner removed the oil cooler and went with an aux oil cooler wedged behind the fanhousing and I fear that it may have done some damage to the poor machine.

The end result hopefully will be a half decent hot 1200 engine because as much as I would like to I can't really afford to build up an expensive death machine motor as I would definately have to start from the ground up.

with the exhaust it is 99% guesswork to cut and shut ;)

cam: engle 100 is a good choice for id range power

rockers: stock, i've shot peened mine, but that's because I do it at work.
