Whats the biggest capacity alternator that can be fitted to a T1 engine? Looking for something in the region of 100 - 150amps...

Thanks,

Errr why would you need an alternator that big ????

I can't tell what Beetle you have got from the pic, but if it's a mexican 1600i beetle then any cheap 50 Amp / 51 Amp alternator will do.

I am currently using a brazilian 50 Amp alternator on my mexican beetle and it has been far more reliable than the so-called CSP (read Volkspares) "special" 75 Amp alternator which fell to bits in only 20,000 miles.

Ok, found somewhere stateside that can supply upto 85amp alternators for T1 engines, with the following part number

ALTERNATOR, NEW, 12 VOLT, 85AMP BOSCH AL82X ALU
042 903 023C

They also offer it in chrome (not for me thanks).
Have also found companies that can rewind it for upto 95amps...

Just waiting on a callback from someone that should be able to help me with what I am after.

Thanks,
Sam C

Have a look state side as over there they have 150amp alts that look exactly like a 50 amp one, Infact from what i have heared you can take yours to a local specialist ( ifthey still exsist) and get them to remake it to 150 amp.
