depends how well the quarry tiles are fixed?? quarry tiles are put down with a sand and cement mix I think and not an adhesive like other tiles, after living in 3 houses with quarry tiled floors I'd say not don't do it lift the quarry tiles first, if they are original I'd remove them and flog em on fleabay or similar but I like em so I'd leave them.

 

Well, the bloke who is going to be sorting out my kitchen floor is intending to do so, so I bloody well hope that you can.

 

Would say yes if they are down firm and solid, as you don't know what problems you have under them and may be taking out loads to get it right. unibond first. Whats the height going to be like after doing this?? If its too high to the next floor height leaving the kitchen, then you may need to remove.

 

If it's too thin and doesn't bond well to the old tiles it'll crack and fall off making your new floor tiles break up.

I'd be inclined to remove the old tiles first. If they're old victorian quarry tiles then they'll only stuck down with cement so should come up fairly easily.
