Biomechanics specialist perhaps. Have you tried orthotics?

got orthotics, and biomechanically I am fooked, she has spent a year working on the core stability and strength in the ankles but she has given up on the bit in the middle apparently I am hyper mobile and she has run out of ideas, been seeing her weekly for over 12 months and a weekly rehab gym for 6 months

what's the replacement options like?

I would be suprised if you were considered as a candidate for a total knee replacement.

It really depends on what you have been diagnosed with.

Cartillage damage can usually be addressed with a wash out procedure but if the cartillage damage in your knees has been caused by biomechanics of your legs, hips or feet the damage will continue after the orthopedic surgery.

Can you just clarify a point you made you say you have been seeing her every week I take it that she is the chiropractor?

Did you get your orthotics from her?

I'll sort you out once I'm qualified.

One of the best orthopaedics in the world is Panos Thomas - he does NHS at the Whittington or private from Highgate. As well as getting me walking again and saving my leg (when there was very little chance) he also does Arsenal and quite a few other football clubs. Knees are is speciality. Aside from him, I'd suggest Prof. Bentley at Royal National Orthopaedic.

can't afford MBT's :(

yes she is the chiropracter and no the orthotics came from the podiatrist at the hospital, they are surgical supports as the orthotics were not enough

my consultant is apperently one of the countrys leading knee specialists and he said it's coz I am fat  the problems started when I was 9 stone!

I cannot afford private :(

Have you tried them then?

My knees are terrible, I'm hypermobile, used to horseride daily and road running finished them off.

I wore MBTs for a year or so and they felt so much better, stronger....however, since I've changed my job, I've not worn them. If I kneel down I can barely straighten up again and I feel like I have gravel under my knee caps.

I think I'll dig them out again. :D

Oddstock were piloting a pain management program... 4 week program of physical and mental torture therapy.
It's designed for those who are, in short, properly fooked!
It's not about treatment as such, although it does play a big part, it's more about how you do things in everyday life and how best to deal with the situations that cause pain.
It was still in the pilot stages a couple of years ago so I don't know if this style of program has been developed further and expanded to other areas or whether it's been dropped.
If the idea got expanded then if there are no more options it maybe worth a line of enquiry.
