Propex heater question...

How hot does casing/exhaust get?

Am in process of fitting it to the 45 degree bulkhead under seat, there is existing foam insulation internally and major amount of sound deadening stuff externally!

Is it safe to leave these both in place? Internal stuff is probably shite so can go tbh. Should I ensure that no exhaust pipe is touching sound deadening matting thingy stuff?

Fast "correct" answers worth a pint...wanna get it finished this eve...

Mine's a Stella......

The exhaust gets bloody hot and obviously cools the further out it is and the more in the open air it is. Keep any non metal objects clear of the hole in the body work - I'd give it a beer can sized space all round the exhaust on both sides - that means scrap off any underseal or bitumin on the outside and lob lots of spray can gloss over the hole to protect it and the paint. Doesn't matter what colour because no-one will see it (unless you are in the habit of running folk over.....)

Cheers, I've cleared the area of underseal and zinc oxided the bare metal. But as for the matting, I'm struggling to see how to run the exhaust pipes out without it touching it at some point...

Any more advice??

...so I've finished putting the bugger in...but I'm not too happy with the close proximity of the heat exhaust to the fuel line. Anyone know the safe distance? It's not touching it but I don't know the risk of it melting the fuel line 'cos I don't know how hot it gets?

Kieran...where do your exhausts go to?

Anyone got any pics? I've a sneaky suspicion I'm gonna end up moving the b*stard!!!

now that makes me laugh I've got the original micro bus seat in mine which doesn't leave much head room and space between the seat runners for the unit. Lets just say I've got 6 holes in my rear floor now.

If you look to the rear of the bus from inside I've put mine just to the left of the nearside wheel arch at a 45% angle on the bulkhead with the hot air heater hose going to the right/ offside of the bus.

The ext. exhaust then goes over the gearbox and the end sits backwards just above the offside axle tube.

The ext. air feed faces backwards/ on an angle to the nearside off the bus. Bearing in mind if the hoses are to close together the system will detect it and shut off and also if the air hoses face forward the unit sometimes goes out.

what do you mean about fuel hose Gas or petrol?

will try to get some pics for ya soon but done my back in and can't get under the bus

Cheers Kieran, mines a LHD westy Berlin so I had no choice but to face it offside, wasn't seeing much of an alternative tbh.

The hose is the petrol line from tank back towards pump... beginning to sound more and more like a hazard the more I think about it!!

Will have a look-see in the light and try to figure out any alternative....
