If I remove Java I won't be able to reinstall as I have no network connectivity.

Tried the code which then asks me to put the Server 2003 disc in. Which I did - I now find the damn CD drive doesn't work...

I have a replacement drive on order for delivery Thursday - I'll report back

 

Do you have another PC with a CD drive? If so make an ISO of the CD and use that in a USB drive.

Machine has win_rar installed & thinks the .iso is a win_rar archive.

How would you recommend mounting the .iso? The sfc /scannow currently doesn't give me an option to change the drive letter.

OK so the scan seems to have run. I am now back to the cmd window with no report on screen.

The missing file tcp.exe is continuning in it's abscence & the IP service can't start. Grrrrr

It's just occured to me - I'm only trying to find this file as a guess to fix the problem I'm experiencing.

Problem is came into work turned on client machine found no network connectivity.

Checked server & found it has the hump with the network card so the server doesn't have any network connectivity either.

When I check the properties of the card & tick the tcp/ip icon to appear when there's a fault - this is where I *think* the problem lies.

This Server is the DCHP machine for the network if that gives any light to the problem.

I'm not anywhere near 100% au fait with this shizzle but I need this working

 

Nope no message thay I saw - I didn't stand there & watch it religiously but when I came back there was nothing apart from the cmd window showing the previous sfc code.

 

Is this a 32 bit or 64 bit install?

 

I'll have to answer that tomorrow when I'm back in front of the machine

 

If I know what you have I can install it in a VM and send you the file you want.

Does the NIC card in the server have more than 1 network port? You could try disabling the old one and enabling another port. You would need to give it the same IP details as the existing port though.

 

Just tried that & comes back with same apparent fault, so I think it's not the network hardware.

 

Download the 2003 Server Server Pack 2 on another machine and copy to a USB stick. Reapply it on your machine, it may replace the missing file.

 

This makes a lot of sense - sadly it didn't work

 

Bad news. My install doesn't have tcp.exe. Because it's in a VM it appears to use different software provided by Oracle.

Just been on a 2003 R2 SP2 server to see if I could get if for you. It's not there I am afraid. It's a physical server as well! All the rest we have are virtualised.

Thank you. So I guess that's not why I have no/limited connectivity.

The card has an ip address when you look in its properties, it's happy to report when a cable is unplugged, when I disable TCP/IP the error icon in the task bar goes away. Flummoxed & out of my depth.

Much happier servicing & tuning the splitty I've just been working on. Sigh.

 

Whats the server plugged into? Switch, router? reboot the lot , try changing the port the server is plugged into in case one of the switch ports has a fault or plugging a laptop into the switch/router and give it the same IP as server and see if you still get the same issue.

At least it will narrow where the problem lies once this is done.
