Satin black paint, plasticote is a favorite, but any will do as it doesn't have to be a high temp paint for tins.

To clean it use 'gunk' cleaner or something similar and rinse it with a hose.

Jet spray wont damage the engine, but avoid spraying the electrical parts (dynamo. coil etc) directly.

 

Get a spray bottle of gunk & an old toothbrush to scrub it with. Some old rags to clean it off. Oh, & a can of elbow grease. I wouldn't water jet it if I were you (but you could probably take it somewhere & get it steam cleaned). Tinware - rub it down, degrease or stick it in your mothers dishwasher, any aerosol primer (upol is good) & satin black paint will be fine.

I found white spirit was great at removing gunk and such from the tinware and truckwash was really good at cleaning the case. Lots of elbow grease and a couple of toothbrushes are suprisingly effective for the hard to reach areas.

 

For cleaning, blood, sweat and tears.

 

Halfords or any local motor factors will stock it.

i used bbq paint for the tin. Cleaned off the shit with thinners.

gunk and a pressure washer to clean everything. as long as water doesn't get inside the engine it should be fine, just let it dry for a good amount of time. I have washed a running engine this way before, it dried off pretty quickly :lol:

I like matte or satin black paint on the tinware, if you can afford it I do suggest matte black powder coat, it's the dogs danglies

i used cheapo washing up liquid and a scrubbing brish to clean my tinwera, came up a treat. then I just hammerited it. this was about ten years ago and it still looks fine now.

 

Funnily enough, I've used fairy a few times now on really greasy parts. A strong solution and left to soak for a while and they come clean really quickly witha decent scrub.
Not that different to baked on fat after a sunday roast...
