Transporter Three is the one between a Bay and a builders van.

As said its the same thing. Split is T1, bay T2, then T3, T4 and now the T5. In the UK for some reason it's known as T25, in the US they call them Vanagon.

 

I had a couple of early aircooled T3s and the VIN plates had Type 2/5 stamped on them.

Type2 = Transporter (T1=splitty, T2=bay, T3=wedge(aka T25), T4=builders van, T5=new builders van)
Type3 = variant (notch, fasty etc)

Type3 Van. Type 25 chassis is a panel van. I believe the single cab vans are type 23 chassis and the crew cab type 24. I could be way off but this is second hand info.

I know I need to weld up my driver side cab step, a small bit on the sill and get a new hatch and sliding door for mine.

It's held up well tbh, seeings as it's sat since 2008

They're all a bit rubbish (VW Commercials), but the T3 is a bit less rubbish that those that went before, and drives IMO a bit better than the T4 that came after.. although as a van, the T4 is infinately more useful.

Never made a decent engine in them though.

Fugly is in then eye of the beholder: I never used to like T3s or Bays for that matter.... Then I bought a Bay which I kept for 8 years, and now I own a T3
