I admit i don't start my bug up as often as i should usually once a week, sometimes every 2 weeks. But when i fire it up a big cloud of white smoke comes from the zoom tube, then returns to normal. Is this worrying?

Its Pope you disrespectful blasphemer. ;)

ok thanks people, im not too worried anymore, i was thinking its just water burning off too ;)
It could be a blown head gasket - check the radiator??

(Nobody said it was an air cooled -did they?)

I would be concerned if there was a goodly amount of condensation in the pipework as it will with the acidic soot be eating into the exhaust metal. If its a zoom tube and you don't use it as a daily what about putting a bung in the end so that it doesn't suck in moist atmospheric air. It will then suck in the oily/petrol fumes from the cylinder that will help protect the metal. Just a thought
